One of the YEBO volunteers, Pozisa, celebrated her 19th birthday recently.
Here is her story in her own words:
I’m Pozisa Pasiwe. I was born in the Eastern Cape and lived with my grandmother while my mother was busy hustling for a job. I studied my lower grade at Mgwalana Primary School from Grade 1–3. Then my mother found a job and she moved me to the German Village Primary School for a better education, to complete my lower grades, Grade 4–7. In that last year I lost my grandmother.
I then went to Nathaniel Pamla High and only studied Grade 8 there. Then I went back again to study at the villages where there was poor education. That was my choice because my mother wasn’t working anymore. I studied Grade 9 only and that year my mother came to Cape Town in search of a job. The following year, as my mother was in Cape Town, I also came this side in 2013. I studied my Grade 10 at Sinenjongo High and failed and repeated it. I studied hard till I reached Grade 12.
I enjoy playing netball and also to give back to the community. My dream is to become a teacher or a social worker, build my home in the Eastern Cape and give my little brother and sister better education.
Thanks for sharing your story with us and Happy Birthday Pozisa!
