Huge excitement abounded at Sophakama Primary School on Tuesday when SABC 3’s breakfast TV show, Expresso, visited the school this week.
We were given the opportunity to showcase our morning English Literacy Programme and volunteers and learners were filmed during our reading session.
The Expresso team filmed one of the learners, Lutha Mabongo, in her classroom and in the Dunoon environment.
Lutha has been on the programme for the last year and her growth and competency in English reading has proved useful, as she often helps to explain to other learners when they are struggling with understanding and comprehension of a game or story.
The team also interviewed one of the volunteers, Shirleen Altini, about the literacy programme and then gave Lutha the opportunity to show off her reading skills.
The principal, Sabelo Makubalo, spoke eloquently about the positive impact that the programme has had on the school, the teachers and the learners.
We can’t wait to hear when the article will be aired and will definitely add a recording of it to the website and blog soon.
