Keep on reading! Keep on learning!
This was the celebratory message given to our third group of learners, who completed their year on the English Literacy Programme today.
At an emotional Certificate Ceremony, learners were handed their certificates and a book gift from their volunteer.
Parents, principal and teachers, representatives from the WCED and volunteers proudly celebrated the achievement of these learners. Learners, in turn, were eager to present what they had learnt.
We heard learners reading short stories, singing songs and rhymes and proving that reading is fun!
These Grade 3 learners have spent two sessions each school week for a year with volunteers, practising and developing their English – reading, speaking, writing and comprehension, with a bit of fun and games in between.
It was clear today how the time spent together makes a difference to the lives of both learner and volunteer.
Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This quote was used today by one of our volunteers, cheering on our learners to greater heights.
Hopefully they have been inspired to continue their reading journey and we wish them every success for their future learning!
