In 2017, we introduced the Brainboosters programme to Grade 1 learners at Sophakama Primary School.

Two classes were selected to pilot the programme (one doing the Maths component and the other doing the English literacy component). Teachers and learners were very excited about this programme and a decision was made to formally introduce it to all 5 Grade 1 classes, at the beginning of 2018.

On 26 March 2018, three teachers were trained – Ms Sifatyi, Ms Nokoyo and Ms Mkosana. Xolisa and Nomthandazo, the two teachers who initially piloted the programme, managed the session. The concepts were presented to the three teachers and then implemented, with the teachers observing and interacting, during a real lesson with learners.

The programme is CAPS aligned and ensures that all Grade 1s are up-to-speed with basic concepts at the level required during their Grade 1 year.

The Maths part of the programme has 15 themes and the English part has 12 themes.

The formal introduction of the Brainboosters programme will commence during the week of 23 April 2018, with 25 minutes per lesson allocated to it.

We wish the Grade 1 teachers and learners the best of luck with this programme and we will provide support where needed.
