People of all ages attended the Reading Association of South Africa’s Family and Community Literacy Day held at the Baxter Theatre in Rondebosch. Anyone who loved stories was welcome – teachers, children, parents, caregivers, and librarians.
The theme was Igniting imagination
Reading and writing for pleasure and play. The event was well-attended by organisations across the literacy and publishing fields – Shine, Nal’ibali and FunDza among them. Storytellers, writers of children’s literature and musicians all contributed via workshops, shows, panel discussions and presentations.
It was a real celebration of how creative ideas and experiences can be used to spark imagination,Promoting reading and writing for pleasure and play.
It was heartening to see the wealth of resources that are available.The passion of people and organisations who promote reading in South Africa.
