Exciting news is that another one of our programmes is due to start at Sophakama Primary School during the second term of this year!

The school will be introducing the BrainBoosters programme in their Grade 1 class/es,

BrainBoosters is developed to further equip South African teachers in Early Childhood Development and show parents of young children how to stimulate early brain development. Children get a great start in life during the critical foundation years and are able to ‘catch up’ on basic concepts from the beginning of formal schooling.

Eddie Phillips, the consultant for BrainBoosters in Cape Town, met with the Deputy Principal, Mary Nel, on Tuesday 14 March to give her a brief introduction to the programme.

Mary, also the Head of Foundation Phase, and her team are very excited to start the programme.

A pilot group from the Grade 1 class/classes will be selected to implement the full programme, which has a numeracy and literacy component, specifically to enhance the acquisition of English at the school. Each component will be completed over a period of 12 weeks, but can be run concurrently.

Currently the Grade 1s have English lessons for two hours per week. Each component requires an additional 40 minutes per day (in English). The programme is CAPS aligned and supported by the Western Cape Education Department.

Eddie will provide training to the teachers on the 28 April 2017.

We look forward to providing more information as this programme takes off and Grade 1s catch up!
