Holiday fun offered by Yebo Volunteers!

Sophakama Primary Schools six Year Beyond volunteers and their facilitator, Bonke, entertained learners during the March/April school holidays.

The holiday programme forms part of the Year Beyond Programme offered to learners in Grades 1–4. Three mornings of full-on fun!

Monday was Art day: Learners painted, cut, glued and pasted. Paintings, collages, drawing and clay-making were very popular.

Tuesday was for academic games: UNO, puzzles, chess, games on tablets and spelling and times tables challenges.

Wednesday was the day to show off: A talent show was organised and prizes presented for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places per grade.

As part of the holiday programme, volunteers were given the opportunity to add to their skills: coding, skipping and formal art training were among the topics presented to the Sophakama volunteers who participated, and they will pass on what they learnt to the other volunteers.

These bonus skills will be added to the options offered to learners during Clubs and Societies on a Friday. Volunteers really enjoyed these additional training sessions.

Watch the great videos! I am sure that the learners and volunteers can’t wait until the next holidays in June!
