Last week saw the end of the English Literacy Programme reading sessions for the third term.
At the beginning of this term, we introduced a new process where volunteers read to one learner for half an hour and then to a second learner for another half an hour. This gives each learner a one-to-one session with a volunteer, reading and checking comprehension (using various resources).
It’s been awesome to see the benefits of spending time individually with each learner. I have been reminded of how much fun it is to read to young people and how much it means to them to have a volunteer’s gift of time. I received the sweet note attached from one of my learners and will use it as a continued reminder.
Thanks to all our enthusiastic volunteers for their time and support of our programme!
We start sessions again in October. Contact Tracy Farquhar on firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in joining us.
